De Telefoongids was na divestment uit KPN, niet sexy of dominant. Partijen als Google, MSN en Gouden Gids timmerden hard aan de weg. Door een intensieve doelgerichtte implementatie van cost-leaderhip werd productiviteit verhoogd, nam de slagvaardigheid toe en kon een aanzienlijke hoeveelheid budget worden vrijgemaakt voor innovatie. Dit resulteerde in nieuwe producten en diensten, in een rebranding en in een toenemende outpacement van de concurrentie. Uiteindelijk moest de concurrentie opgeven en werd de overname van GG door DTG een feit.
